St. Michans Church

Two days ago I went out without Julia, she wasn't felling well to go out that day. Because of that I walked around on my way to do my things, I went in one of the most amazing church I've ever seen. It's is an 11th century Hiberno-Viking church, the dull façade of St. Michan's hides a more exciting interior.

Deep in its vaults lie a number of bodies that have barely decomposed because of the dry atmosphere created by the church's magnesian limestone walls. The church is not allowed to open the coffins. Their wooden caskets, however, have cracked open. Revealing the preserved bodies, complete with skin and strands of hair. Among those thought to have been mummified in this way are the brothers Henry and John Sheares, leaders of the 1798 rebellion, who were executed that year, as well as Mr. Willian Rowan Hamilton who together with his family (who still can be bury in the church) is buried there There is also an organ (1724) on which Handel is said to have played. It is thought that the churchyard contains the unmarked grave of United Irishman Robert Emmet, leader of the abortive 1803 Rising.

At the end of tour I could touch the oldest mummy there, is the one on the back. That mummy was one knight member of the order of the Knights Templars because was bury with his legs crossed at the age they were alive.

It was really amazing. I'll never wash my hands again.

A dois dias eu fui passear sem a Julia, ela não esta se sentindo bem pra sair. Por causa disso eu pude fazer as coisas do meu jeito passeei bastante onde eu queria ir e me deparei com um das mais impressionantes igrejas que eu já vi. É uma igreja do século 11 em seu estilo Viking antigo, e sua fachada esconde um interior bem interessante.

Embaixo da abóbada da igreja existem vários corpos que se decompuseram pouco devido a atmosfera criada pela magnésio das paredes de pdra calcaria que absorvem a umidade. A igreja não é permitida a abrir os caixões. Alguns caixões abrirão por acidente revelando corpos com pele e tranças de cabelos. Seguindo essa premissa devem estar mumificados também os irmãos Henry e John Sheares lideres da revolução de 1798 que foram executados nesse mesmo ano e o Mr. Willian Rowan Hamilton (da lei de haminlton da física) que junto com sua familia, que ainda pode ser enterrada lá, também estão enterrados lá. Dentro da igreja tem um órgão que dizem que Handel tocou e atras dela, no jardim, tem uma lápide sem marcas do unificador irlandês Robert Emmet , lider da revolução de 1803.

Bram Stoker tirou sua inspiração pra dracula dentro das criptas vendo os corpos. No final da visita eu pude tocar no numa das múmias, na mais velha delas, a mais no fundo da foto. Essa múmia acreditam que era um dos cavaleiros templários pois foi enterrada com as pernas cruzadas e na época em que eles eram ativos.
